This past week, students at local primary schools buzzed with excitement for a special visitor – Chief Akudee Duru. As part of her acclaimed Educate A Child Program, Chief Duru spent the week immersed with youth in our communities who are often underserved. Her hands-on approach uplifts both students and teachers alike.
Chief Duru’s program provides schools with educational materials specially curated to stimulate curiosity for each subject. Students received new textbooks, creative writing journals, science workbooks, and more. The Chief went class-to-class distributing materials tailored to enhance skills practiced at each grade level.
Equally important, Chief Duru’s program provides students with healthy, nutritious meals. Many students come from families facing food insecurity. They now have lunches and snacks allowing them to focus in class rather than on growling stomachs.
Beyond materials and meals, Chief Duru gifts students with her time, attention, and encouragement. She engages enthusiastically with pupils through activities, mentorship, and one-on-one guidance. Students proudly presented special projects they designed just for her visit.
Her week-long immersion motivates students to dream big while inspiring teachers to continue impacting young lives. The connections made will ripple through the school year. As one grateful principal put it, “Chief Duru has given these children a spark of hope – one that can ignite change for generations to come.”
We commend Chief Duru for her hands-on investment towards equalizing access to quality education. She continues leading by example when it comes to nurturing community, courage, and promise within Awo Omamma’s youngest minds.
